EXCELLENTBased on 29 reviewsJulia26 March 2024We rented our van from Piwiwiwi for almost four weeks this summer and had the best time with it. We can only recommend this family owned business! Since we found the reviews really helpful I wanted to write a really detailed review to help others understand the layout of this awesome campervan! The van is a Toyota Hiace and you can fit up to 3 people in it, as there are three seats in the front, one of those can be converted to a middle console. In the front there are two USB ports for charging your phone and you can use your phone for navigating. Listening to music was easy as it also has a Bluetooth connection option. The back of the van was designed so thought-through that we didn’t miss anything in our weeks of travel. The kitchen: Beginning with the kitchen we had a huge sink with a about 20l water tank (which is really big and lasted about 5-6 days for us until we had to fill it up again) und tons of storage option. The kitchen was equipped with every kitchen utensil we needed. (Pan, to pots, lighter, cutlery, and enough plates ,glasses and cups for 3 people.) The fridge is definently bigger than it looks and you even have a tiny freezer. Cooking with the gas cooker was easy and since there is a Carbonmonoxide AND smoke detector and ventilation there is nothing to be worried about. We were really happy that we could cook inside. We saw a lot of other campervans where you had to cook outside, definitely would not recommend one of those, if it’s raining cooking is no fun. The ,bathroom’: In the kitchen there is a little mirror which you can use to get ready in the morning. There also is a toilet which is hidden really well. You can pull it out under the bed and use it. We did not use it since even most of the free camping grounds have toilets but it is important as you have to have a toilet for it to be self contained. The living room and bed: This was cool since it is a 2 in one: during the night you have the bed which was big enough for us tall Germans. We slept really good on the matress. During the day you convert it to two benches and a table, it takes about 2 minutes to change the layout and it was really easy. Charging: This is what we found the coolest. There are solar panels on the roof and inside there is an inverter. What that means is that the energy from the solar panels can be converted to a totally normal power outlet. You can use it day and night. That was awesome since we were able to charge a huge MacBook, all our camera equipment and our phones or power banks. There is also a USB port. If you need more than one 230V Power outlet you can book a powered campsite and connect the campervan to power. Then you have the option to use two more power outlets. Although we have tons of technical equipment we did not have to book a powered site once!! Awesome feature!! Outdoor equipment: When you open the back of the van you can easily pull out two free ! camping chairs. And a camping table. We really appreciated this since f.ex with juicy campers you have to pay a lot extra. Storage/place for yours clothes: Above the bed and above the car seats there are two very large storage places. We used one of those for our clothes (easily enough space for all of our clothes) and one for backpacks and camera equipment. You have more storage options under the bed and also tons of options in the kitchen. We had a great time and the van was everything we hoped for! Nick was so nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Also don’t be worried about how you get to your campervan: Nick picks you up from the airport and drives you there! Can only recommend!Picoruyters NL23 March 2024We had the best experience ever. Our van was really smartly designed with great little touches like a coffee plunger, drying line and pegs. At first we were a little scared as our van could not plug in but we soon found out that the solar pannel on top provided enough electricity for everything we needed. So we even saved some money as we never had to go to a powered site. Communication by Whatsapp was also great and fast. Would highly recommend!Ryan Nally10 March 2024Outstanding in every way: communication, quality, comfort, etc. Nick gives a thorough tutorial before you take off and there is also a helpful guide provided within the van. The van itself is fantastic. Tinted windows. extended roof so you could stand inside. The stove is inside which is great if you have a stretch of bad weather. Comfy bed. The overall design was fantastic. Somethings that separate the van from others is you do not need electrical hook up. It has a converter that'll charge both when the car is running and via solar power. The van also isn't plastic with the company logo which is very nice. When we shopped around for vans this was by far the best bang for you buck as well. Could not recommend Piwiwiwi enough.William Blair6 February 2024Piwiwiwi Campervans runs a professional operation with well maintained and equipped vans. My wife and I rented one of their Toyota Hi-Ace, for 2 weeks over new years 2024. The van was in immaculate condition with no issues whatsoever. It's well laid out and appointed with everything needed for a tour of New Zealand. The gear down to the coffee plunger and camp chairs were provided, so it's a rent and go explore set up. Nick, the owner was super attentive while corresponding before the rental, and with anything we needed during the rental period. He picked us up at the airport and we transitioned into his van quickly. He also dropped us at the airport for our departure. The crew at Piwiwiwi are professional and were interested in us having a great time touring around. If your lucky enough to secure a campervan from Nick and co. you'll not be disappointed. 10/10 would rent again. Thanks for making our tour around the South Island positively memorable.Drey Lovi5 February 2024Superb experience with Piwiwiwi, we fully recommend this local rental company. Everything from the booking, pickup in Christchurch, recommendations and advice was great! And the van!!!! Perfectly equipped with everything you would want while still being small and easy to drive. Thanks Nick, we only wish we could have stayed longer!Carolyn Carmignac4 February 2024We spent 3 weeks in a piwiwi campervan and were so happy that we chose this company. The vans are very well thought through and provides everything you need for cooking, storing and charging. A few extra features that other vans don't have: solar panel charging for basically limitless electricity (no need to book powered campsites), thick matress, excellent storage possibilities, high roof (you can actually stand in the van which was much appreciated), tinted windows and thick curtains and the fact that there are no tacky company logos covering the van! We basically looked like locals. Nick also provides personalised customer service with pick-up and some helpful itenary tips. We would rent from him again - no doubt!Sweet chilli Sour cream29 January 2024Had the best experience with Nick when we rented a campervan from him in December. We booked late and were very fortunate that Nick had one campervan left for us. The campervan itself was great. It had everything we needed in it and it was spacious, comfy, drove great and best of all was affordable. Cant recommend it enough.Pedro Santander15 January 2024A Van is the way to see New Zealand and Piwiwiwi is the way to go! The price is extremely competitive. The service is impecable. We got picked up and dropped off at the airport perfectly on time, so we had very little to worry about. We got a thorough and efficient review of the van before we took off, and all we had to do when returning the van was to fill the gas tank. The van setup is amazing. A lot of thought and care has gone into the van setup and equipment. It is extremely comfortable and it has everything you need, cooking wise, towels, rags, even a clothes line and pins (which we also used to pin the curtains together for 100% privacy). For us pickup and drop off in Christchurch made sense, which is the only limitation of Piwiwiwi has vs. bigger companies, but I would say it's worth planning around this to stick with this company.Arun Sharma6 January 2024The vans are great. Nick gives you a comprehensive rundown of what's what in the van too, and extras are included in the price whereas other companies will charge, such as a French press, fleece blanket, heater, picnic tables and chairs. Was very comfortable and has all you need for a trip. Didn't miss hotels as I thought I might in the 16 days. Plenty of showers and toilets to be used around the place too so didn't need to use the van toilet. Great fridge which is bigger than it looks. And good storage options for food & gear etc. Would definitely hire a van from piwiwiwi againAmelia Wrightson9 November 2023What an amazing and delightful experience! Everything was a breeze which helped create the solo trip I'll cherish forever. Nick was great at communicating. Not having driven a van before, he gave really good insights and put my nerves at ease. After a quick tour and demo, I was off! The van itself was awesome. It drove really well and the layout was really well thought out to provide comfort and convenience. Honestly can't fault a single thing. Can't wait to plan a return trip and drive another Piwiwiwi Camper!
